Sharptown American Legion Holds Successful Saturday Tournament
The Sharptown American Legion held a successful Saturday tournament this past weekend (Saturday, August 5, 2010).  The Buyin was a $80 Knockout Tournament with $10 paid for eliminating a player, $20 to the house and $50 to the prize.  They had 24 players.  The tournamnet began at 12 noon and ended around 7PM.  Look for them to hold more in the near future.

Local Poker Player Makes It To Day 3 of 2010 WSOP

Local Poker Player Josh Lawson of Salisbury, Maryland had made it through Day 1 and 2 of the 2010 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.  Josh played in Day 1d with Frank Ward from Pocomoke, who went out after a bad beat on the first day.  Mike Maloney from Cambridge, Maryland was also eliminated on Day 1. 1st Annual Delmarva Poker Championship Now History, Gordo Wins!
UPDATE: 6/27 @ 6PM -  Congratulations to Gordon Makenzie of Delmar for winning the 1st Annual Delmarva Poker Championship.  It was finished in 14 hours of play.  Day 2 is not needed.  The DPC was a $500 Buyin ($450 towards the prize) with $50,000 in starting tournament chips.  Only 29 Players started the event, the first player was knocked out after 4 1/2 hours of play.  Then at 12 Midnight, the final four, facing blinds of $15,000/$30,000 agreed to a chip proportionate chop after the sponsor agreed to ending the event in one day.  At 6PM they were down to 19 players, at 8:30PM they were down to 10 players.  All agreed to get as much play in as possible, which they did ending as follows:  Gordon Makenzie took 1st Place and $5,400; Rick Niblett was 2nd and took home $2,900 and Scott Palmer and Chad Gravnor each took $2,375.  Chip counts as follows: Gordon at $640,000, Rick had $355,000 and Scott and Chad each had $240,000.

Althought this tournament had below average expected attendance, the players seemed to enjoy the format and the starting chip count.  Only 12 of the original 26 reserved seats showed up.  13 Players won their seats through low cost satellites, including two of the final four (Rick and Chad).  4 other players bought in the morning of the event.  This was only the second $500+ charity poker tournament held on the Eastern Shore in recent years.  The state of the Delmarva Charity Poker Scene hangs in limbo as Delaware starts legal casino style games.  There is still a place for charity poker on Delmarva as many Maryland and Delaware games are still scheduled throughout the rest of 2010.

Jeff Rantz and Bill King should be applauded for their efforts for Day 1 and the Salisbury VFW should feel proud to host the event.  Although a Day 2 was planned for the Girdletree Firehouse, obviously it is not needed.  The two sponsors together, the Salisbury VFW and the Girdletree Fire Company, along with the two Jeff's worked hard to bring you this event.  Although low attended, the prize pool exceeded $13,000 and first place was posted at $6,525.  Originally they offered only 3 places including 2nd of $3,915 and 3rd of $2,610, but to complete the tournament in one day with a chip proportionate chop was a fair deal to the final four players and the sponsors.

Both the Salisbury VFW and the Girdletree Fire Company would like to thank those 29 players in the Main Event and the almost 100 or so others who played the low cost qualifiers.  With the change in the poker world, especially the charity poker scene, look for local charities to offer a wide varity of charity poker tournaments in the months ahead

1st Annual Delmarva Poker Championship Announced

Updated: Sunday, May 9, 2010 -  PLEASE READ IF YOUR INTERESTED IN THE DPC

There is a possibility, (more likely) the format may change for the DPC.  The two sponsors have listened to the comments from all three sides.  They included the winers, the players who see the original format as a great opportunity and the players who just want to play.  So here is what we are considering.  Read the entire story and compare the two proposals.  Click READ MORE to see the original concept.

NEW IDEA - $500 buyin with only a $50 rake.  Same dates, same locations and a 10% payout field.  Still $50,000 in chips, blinds stay the same, you must buy all your food and soda, no dealers until the final 18 players, and NO LIMIT on the players.  Play the first day until 11:30PM or 18 players.  There will only be two or three qualifiers and NO freeroll.
